SUMMARY:Lecture on Sustainable Planning and Development Tradition of Native Americans
DESCRIPTION:The Boston University Initiative on Cities is co-hosting the UMass Boston Department of Urban Planning and Community Development’s 7th Annual Spring Planning Lecture. This year’s speaker will be Dr. Laura Harjo\, who is a Myskoke scholar and an Associate Professor of Native American Studies at the University of Oklahoma. \n\n\nProfessor Harjo will discuss the rich history of sustainable community-building and place-making among Native American communities in North American highlighting what planners can learn from these experiences. \nProfessor Harjo earned her PhD in Geography at the University of Southern California. She previously served on the faculty at the University of New Mexico before join­ing the University of Oklahoma. Her most recent book\, Spiral to the Stars\, published by the University of Arizona employs Myskoke epistemologies and indigenous feminist ideas to enhance urban planning practice and pedagogy. \nThis event is co-hosted with the Hubert H.
